How to Profit From Recession Stocks |

However, there are some short-side ideas that may not have occurred to you. Everyone thinks that healthcare companies offer the best recession stocks. While that can be true, that's not the case for elective and cosmetic surgery companies. (See also: "Doctors Report a Slowdown in Medical Spending.")
We just banked 215% profits in one of the most prominent dental firms Henry Schein (HSIC), which has major exposure to the cosmetic dentistry field. When people are losing their homes, they tend to worry less about much their pearly whites are gleaming.
When you can find these kinds of vulnerable names and use put options that offer more bang for your bug, it can really ratchet up your profits. Express Scripts (ESRX) is another especially volume-dependent company under the so-called "safe haven" healthcare umbrella that's got my attention.
And we have to remember that the U.S. economic slowdown will affect global economies everywhere. For that reason, I'm also looking at export and emerging-market-sensitive companies that are trading near 52-week lows. They could really break down on a big miss, which means they're ideal recession stocks for the short-side player.
Given our recent profits and the money we stand to make in recession stocks, you'd think I would be ecstatic right now—but I'm not. Markets that are this unstable, that move this quickly and are close to a technical bounce are hard to enter—and it's even harder for long investors to stay in.
That's why short-side plays make sense right now for all investors and why playing the downside of recession stocks can earn you a windfall of profit!
Don't just worry about what the impending economic slowdown will bring—do something to profit from the downturn. The recession will amp up short-side profits in lousy companies for quarters to come.
