Here’s your daily bite of Apple (AAPL) stock news:

Preorders for iPad Start in One Week: In case you haven’t heard through the dozens of outlets trumpeting the news, Apple set a formal date for the day gadget geeks will get their hands on an iPad: April 3. While that’s still a month out, you should definitely mark your calendar for next Friday, March 12 if you want one since it’s unlikely you’ll find any of these iPads on the shelf for window shoppers.

Sony To Take on iPad?: In related news, The Wall Street Journal is claiming that Sony (SNE) is working on its own line of handheld touch devices to fight the iPad, iPhone and other iGadgets. Here’s a taste of the article: “Threatened by Apple Inc.’s growing stable of portable devices, Sony Corp. is developing a new lineup of handheld products, including a smart phone capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games, according to people familiar with the matter.”

Sausage as Stylus for iPhone?: Many thanks to The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) for this gem of a story that most of us would have overlooked otherwise. It’s just too weird to be overlooked! Apparently, a South Korean sausage company did some digging after noticing a huge uptick and sales … the culprit? Apparently frozen sausages make a mean stylus for the iPhone, and folks were tired of taking off their gloves in the winter time. Dare I call them App-itizers?
