Apple in Talks for Social Media Buy: Just a week after rumors surfaced that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been exploring a major investment in Twitter, sources say it is negotiating the acquisition of The Fancy, a social-commerce website, CNET notes. The Fancy is a rival of Pininterest, which allows users to compile lists of favorite items on the web and then discuss them with friends. The Fancy received $10 million in financing last year and is valued at about $100 million. The company is backed by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, and Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook (NASDAQ:FB).

iCloud Hack Wipes Devices: A technology reporter had his life turned upside down over the weekend when hackers penetrated his iCloud account and took control of his Apple machines, AppleInsider notes. Matt Honan says that Apple’s support staff unwittingly allowed hackers to gain access to his iCloud account. From there, the unknown hackers reset his passwords and proceeded to seize control of his iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air, all of which were reset and their memories erased. The hackers then deleted his Google account. Apple has confirmed that the hackers evaded Honan’s passwords by tricking an employee to give them access to his iCloud account.

New Connectors for Everything: Recent rumors have indicated that Apple will adopt a new smaller dock connector on the next-generation iPhone, now sources tell iMore that the new connector will be adopted across Apple’s full line of mobile devices. Apple has used the same dock connector for all mobile devices for years. The smaller dock connector would be incompatible with existing docks for iPhones, iPads and iPods, forcing manufacturers to release updated versions for the new iPhone. Deploying the new dock connector across all mobile product lines could also explain rumors that Apple is set to release updated versions of its iPod and standard-sized iPad, in addition to debuting the new iPhone and a smaller iPad in the coming months.
