Apple Readying Upgraded iMacs: Components for Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) upgraded iMac line will begin shipping next month, according to a report in DigiTimes. The timing of the shipments suggest that Apple will unveil the upgraded iMacs in October. Sources indicated that Apple is attempting to integrate its high-resolution Retina displays into all of its product lines, suggesting that at least some iMac models will feature Retina displays. Apple remains the largest producer of all-in-one desktop computers.

iPad Threatening Notebook Sales: Industry analyst firm NPD DisplaySearch says that tablet sales will outpace notebook sales by 2016, Apple Insider notes. The firm says iPads currently account for more than 60% of all tablet sales and continue to drive the tablet market forward. The firm predicts that tablet sales will increase from 121 million units this year to 416 million in 2017, while notebook sales will rise from 208 million units to just 393 million, during the same time.

Samsung Loses Tablet Appeal: Yesterday, U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh dismissed a request from Samsung to lift her earlier injunction preventing U.S. sales of its Galaxy Tab tablets, Reuters reports. Last week, the judge also issued an order blocking sales of the South Korean manufacturer’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone. The ruling could have ramifications in patent infringement suits currently on trial in other courts. Apple has alleged that Samsung infringed on various patents in the manufacture of the Nexus tablets and smartphones. The matter goes to trial late next month.
