First, trans fat was taken away from our greasy snacks. By 2014, we won’t even be able to chow down on a candy bar over 250 calories. That’s right. After December 2013, McClean, Virginia-based Mars Inc., maker of Halloween and 12 a.m. favorites Twix, Milky Way, Snickers and M&M’s, will not be selling their chocolate products to you if they are more than 250 calories.
This push for “responsible snacking” is no doubt part of an overall trend, pushed by the likes of Michelle Obama, to improve our nation’s eating habits — especially that of our children. Even Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) is getting in on the trend by re-labeling their groceries to help shoppers determine what foods are healthy.
Sorry America, big brother (more like big momma) has decided that you’re too irresponsible to feed your inner fat kid. And, to be honest, I actually agree with them. Just look at this extreme case of self-inflicted punishment on a gastronome who was brazen enough to order a “Triple Bypass Burger” at the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas.
As it turns out, he suffered a heart attack.
So, if you had any doubts as to whether this new health-conscious America had any legs, as you can see, they’ve gotten off the ground and are in the midst of a solid jog — and their looking quite toned.
