Wednesday’s Apple Rumors — iPhone Sales On Hold

Here are your Apple rumors and news items for Wednesday:

Disappointing iPhone Sales: Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares dipped nearly 7% on Wednesday following the company’s earnings report Tuesday. The company sold just 17.1 million iPhones, below Wall Street’s expectations and the sales level three months earlier. The problem was that rumors of a new phone, particularly word of a thoroughly updated fifth-generation model, had many potential customers waiting. The fact that Apple sold 4 million iPhone 4S units in three days should bode well for the company’s next earnings report, however.

iCloud Problems: While Apple’s new iPhone 4S is a hit,  one of the company’s other new products has experienced a shaky start. The Documents & Data syncing feature of Apple’s iCloud, a service that lets people upload documents to Apple’s servers so they can be accessed on any device, isn’t working properly for a number of users, according to a Wednesday report at Apple Insider. Consumers are saying that “you can literally see iCloud delete” documents after they’ve been uploaded. These problems are happening seemingly at random, with no individual bug identified. Luckily, investors and analysts are busy worrying about Apple’s iPhone sales, so iCloud’s early jitters aren’t causing too much of a ruckus.

New Android: Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has debuted the latest version of its Android mobile operating system, nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich. The update remodels the look of Android’s interface that Google hopes will differentiates its product from both Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone operating systems. The new Galaxy Nexus phone also sports many of the same features as the new iPhone 4S, but touts an improved 4.65-inch screen.
